Eat Food, Not Additives

Julie from the app Yuka recently posted this info about 7 popular products found in most grocery stores. They are attractively packaged and seemingly harmless. However, they are are so highly processed as to be considered high risk..

With kids going back to school and parents needing to fill their lunch boxes, cross these items off your list and scroll to the bottom to find some healthy suggestions from me:

  • Oatmeal Creme Pies Little Debbie: 26 additives

  • Hostess Donettes Powdered Mini Donuts: 21 additives

  • Lunchables Turkey + American Cracker Stackers: 22 additives

  • Toufayan Savory Spinach Wraps: 19 additives

  • Jimmy Dean English Muffin Turkey Sausage: 21 additives

  • Special K Blueberry Pastry Crisps: 18 additives

  • UTZ Pub Mix: 20 additives

Now, for some better choices:

  • organic apples, bananas, pears, oranges

  • cheese slices

  • nut butter

  • cottage cheese

  • yogurt and fresh berries

  • carrots and hummus

home made energy bites (nut butter, whole oats, honey, dried fruit)

Some packaged items are acceptable and healthy:

  • Kirkland Organic Apple Sauce Pouch

  • Trader Joe’s Organic Apple Strawberry Fruit Wrap

Only when we boycott inferior, potentially harmful food will manufacturers alter their recipes to something more healthy. Wishing everyone a happy and successful school year!
