At Home Strategies for Healthy Eating
How often is it you go to the kitchen, look for something to eat, and find yourself eating junk food?  You graze through the cabinets, or the refrigerator, and find fritos, potato chips, or cookies, eat a few, and still feel hungry.  Do you ever wonder why this happens?
It happens because the food choices you are making are there in your kitchen!  We've been conditioned to buy these low quality foods through consistent and effective advertising.  Food choices like these are mainly comprised of simple sugars and high fats, all relatively cheap foods that are unhealthy and lead not only to continuing hunger, but to excess weight and sluggish energy.
The secret to unlocking the cycle of eating high calorie, low satisfying foods is changing what you buy.
We all know we eat what we see.  If you are hungry and you go to the kitchen, you will select what is quick and easy to eat.  Choosing what you buy and what you bring into your home is where you begin to change your life.
-----Recipe of the Month------------
Here's a recipe for nutritious popsicles to have on hand this summer
Creamy popsicles These creamy treats are a great way to add protein, calcium and potassium to the diets of finicky eaters:
1 12.3 oz pkg. Mori-Nu Lite Silken Tofu, firm      1 c. fortified vanilla soy milk
1 c. calcium fortified o.j. concentrate           ¼ c. pure maple syrup
2 ripe bananas

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until completely smooth. Pour into popsicle molds or small paper cups, insert sticks and freeze.  (131 calories)

Preschedule your appointments for the rest of 2008!
Many of you regularly schedule Shiatsu or Reiki treatments for health and well-being.  If you would like to reserve specific dates and times for your treatments in 2008, the best thing to do is pre-schedule. For instance, if you come weekly, or once or twice a month, we can get your preferred times on the calendar at the start of the year.
As of now my office hours in Westwood are Tuesdays, 12:30-7:00, Thursdays 8:00-6:30,  Medfield on Fridays 2:00-7:00 and West Roxbury all day Saturday.
Please be in touch for details if you wish to preschedule.
