Launching a Healthy Food Plan for 2010 - The Outcome
We had a terrific turnout for the Healthy Eating launch program on the 19th. Want to know what we talked about? We talked about how simple and how complex healthy eating can be Whole grains? What are they? Protein requirements? What do you need? What's healthy and what's hype? We took a barebones and practical approach to answering some of these questions. As guests came in, they registered and meandered over to a table with 3 dishes to sample: quinoa tabouli, Frnech lentil salad and a cool barley salad with a dressing of lemon and olive oil.We followed that with a look at some kitchen equipment basics that make preparing these healthy and delicious foods quick and easy. I also showed specific examples of good food choices and poor food choices, really looking at labels to get beyond the hype. Oatmeal? Yes! Vitamin water? Uh-Uh!Lisa Biagetti introduced guests to her organization, the Mayflower Farm & Garden, and talked about some of their upcoming projects.Dr. Peter Kevorkian gave a lively presentation on life and vitality, asking us to visualize a lifeline, with one end being death, and the other being optimum health.Think about that for a moment - where would you place yourself on this kind of lifeline? Is your health where you want it to be? How much to do appreciate the health that you have? How much, or how little, do you nourish the health that you have with consistent healthy eating? Have you come to a place where you think it's normal to feel tired at mid-day, to have stomach acid after eating, or to have several medications to take every day? Healthy eating plays a role in preventing diseases as diverse as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, migraine headache, menstrual problems, obesity, osteoarthritis, GERD, IBS and even Alzheimer's. It is the most poweful tool any of us has in preventing illness. How much or how little do you take advantage of this fact? What if you came to a point where you actually feel good again?
